Scrolling on the menu bar doesn't change the volume

Make sure Scroll Volume is running — its icon should be visible in the menu bar.

The cursor needs to be over the menu bar itself, not over an open menu or window below it.

If you just installed the app, try quitting and reopening it once.

How do I launch it at login?

Open the app's menu bar icon, go to Settings, and enable "Launch at login."

The iPhone companion can't find my Mac

Both devices should be on the same Wi‑Fi network, or have Bluetooth turned on.

Allow Local Network access for Scroll Volume in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network.

Does it need the internet?

No. The Mac app works fully offline. The iPhone companion talks to the Mac directly over your local network.

Scroll Volume is built with privacy as a default. This page explains what the app does and does not do with data.

Data we collect

None. The app does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics SDKs, no advertising identifiers, no crash reporting services, and no third‑party trackers.

Data stored on your device

The app keeps a small amount of information locally so pairing works:

The name of Macs you have paired with, so the app can reconnect automatically.
Local preferences such as the last connected host.

This information never leaves your device. Remove it any time by unpairing a host or deleting the app.

Local communication (iPhone companion only)

The optional iOS companion app talks directly to the Mac using Apple's MultipeerConnectivity framework (Bluetooth and/or local Wi‑Fi). Traffic stays on your local network and is not routed through any server operated by us or any third party. The macOS app on its own does not communicate over the network at all.

Permissions

macOS: Accessibility — required to read scroll events over the menu bar so the app can translate them into volume changes.
iOS: Local Network and Bluetooth — required only if you use the iPhone companion, to discover and connect to your Mac.
